Come get your tickets for Barefoot in the Park!
Taylor’s School of Medicine are currently looking for people interested in this program. Herewith some FAQs about Simulated Patient (actor –patients) for your kind reference.
Who are actor-patients?
Part-time actors who are keen to learn to play the role of a simulated (pretend) patient.
Even people with no acting experience but interested in this program are welcome to apply.
Must I have good acting skills to join this program?
No, you don’t need prior experience for this. However if you can already act that is good. Anyone who is keen to learn to act is welcome. The volunteer will be trained to role play according to a script prepared by a lecturer.
Why do we need actor-patients?
The Taylors University School of Medicine is in the midst of developing a Simulated Patient (actor patient) Bank.
This will provide our junior medical students with the opportunity to train within the Clinical Skills Suite at the Lakeside Campus before they meet real patients at the hospitals and clinics.
Other than students, can other lay persons volunteer for this program?
Yes, we are also interested to invite people who have interesting medical histories (e.g. high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, obesity, asthma etc) and who have real physical findings. We are interested in just about anyone like librarians, schoolteachers, retired college lecturers, medical technicians, retired people, college students and homemakers who are interested in helping us train young medical students.
Are medical services or treatment provided during this program?
No, unfortunately as the present time the School of Medicine does not have the facilities to provide treatment for patients. They should continue their treatment provided by their own doctor. It is important to note that the individual must be stable and not requiring any urgent medical attention when they come as a volunteer.
What is the duration of one session and will I get paid for this work?
Each session usually lasts 1 or 2 hours. The payment is RM 20 per hour.
When will the sessions commence?
The program begins in June 2011 and we require actor-patients for one hour between 2pm -4pm on the following days:
27th June, 28th June, 30th June
4th July, 5th July and 7th July
11th July, 12th July, 14th July , 15 July
N.B. Please DO NOT miss your classes. Volunteer only outside your class time.
How do I join this program?
